About KB Covers
KB Covers produces shortcut keyboards and keyboard covers for creative applications, languages, keyboard protection, and other specialist uses. Its extensive product range covers applications such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, and many others.
With WooCommerce products organized across different applications, categories, languages, and keyboard types, the website needs to make it easy for customers to find the right product—and equally easy for the KB Covers team to manage the catalog behind it.
The Problem
The website worked. Managing it did not.
From the customer’s perspective, the existing website and its design were already familiar and functional. KB Covers was not looking for a visual redesign.
The website had been built with a clunky page builder that made even routine changes unnecessarily slow. Opening the editor or saving an update regularly took between 20 and 30 seconds.
A single delay may not sound significant, but website management rarely involves a single action. Those waiting periods accumulated throughout every product update, content change, and editing session, making everyday work slower and more frustrating than it needed to be.
The website also depended on several plugins that provided individual pieces of required functionality. Although those small features were useful, each came bundled with a much larger set of options and functionality that KB Covers did not need.
Product management involved additional manual work as well. When products were added or removed, the corresponding shop and category pages also needed to be updated.
The website was functional, but the process behind maintaining it had become unnecessarily complicated, and slow.
The objective: retain the design and rebuild the experience behind it
The scope was clear: recreate the existing frontend design on a new custom theme built with the S-Tier Framework while completely overhauling the backend editing experience.
This was not a redesign project. Customers should continue to see the website they recognized, while the KB Covers team received a much faster and more efficient system for managing it.
That meant looking beyond the appearance of individual pages and reconsidering how content, products, categories, and navigation worked together throughout the website.
From 20–30 seconds to almost instant
The new backend was built around the content KB Covers actually manages, with editing options structured specifically for its website.
Instead of working through a general-purpose page builder, the team now uses focused fields and controls designed around the content being edited. Functionality that previously required more steps has been simplified, making product information easier to enter and manage.
The difference is immediately noticeable. Actions that previously took between 20 and 30 seconds to load or save now respond almost instantly, typically within one or two seconds.
The improvement is not limited to a performance score or technical benchmark. It directly affects the people working on the website and saves time during every editing session.
Replacing plugin overhead with exactly what the website needs
During the rebuild, we removed nine plugins from the website.
The functionality those plugins provided was not simply discarded. KB Covers needed parts of it—but not the large collection of unrelated features, settings, and interfaces that came with each plugin.
We rebuilt the necessary functionality directly into the new theme, focusing only on what the website and its administrators actually use.
This resulted in a more focused setup with fewer dependencies, fewer interfaces to navigate, and less unnecessary functionality surrounding everyday tasks.
Rather than adapting the client’s workflow to the tools, we built the tools around the client’s workflow.
Add the product once . Let the website handle the rest.
Product management was another important part of the rebuild.
Previously, adding or removing a product also meant manually updating the relevant shop and category pages. It created additional work and more opportunities for products to appear in the wrong place or remain visible where they no longer belonged.
In the new website, those pages populate automatically based on the product’s assigned information.
We also built a new mega menu that populates automatically according to product categories. Additional rules exclude products that match specific criteria, allowing the navigation to remain accurate without requiring the KB Covers team to manage every menu entry manually.
The team can now focus on adding and maintaining the product itself. The website determines where that product should appear
Keeping the design without carrying over its inconsistencies
Although the project did not include a redesign, recreating the frontend did not mean reproducing every inconsistency from the previous theme.
Fixed Inconsistencies
During development, we identified uneven variation-swatch widths, inconsistent alignment, and layouts that could break in certain situations. These issues affected both desktop and mobile views.
Kept the familiarity
We refined those elements while retaining the website’s established visual direction. Product pages still felt familiar, but their layouts and variation options were rebuilt to behave more consistently across different content and screen sizes.
Natural Result
These improvements were not additional requests from the client. They were a natural result of our development process and our belief that rebuilding a website should not mean knowingly carrying its existing limitations into the new version.
The client had been comfortable with the previous presentation because it worked for them. Seeing the refined version demonstrated how much better it could be without requiring a full redesign.
Delivered ahead of schedule
The backend overhaul, custom functionality, product automation, mega menu, and frontend refinements were all completed within the original project budget.
The finished website was delivered one month ahead of the agreed deadline.
Delivering early did not come from reducing the project’s ambitions or blindly reproducing the previous website. It came from a clear development process, a focused framework, and making decisions around what KB Covers genuinely needed.
The result: familiar to customers, transformed for the team
The new KB Covers website retains the design customers already knew while providing a fundamentally different experience for the people managing it.
The team now benefits from:
- An editing experience that responds almost instant instead of 20–30 secods
- Product fields that are easier to understand and require fewer steps
- Automatic population of shop and category pages
- A category-driven mega menu with built-in exclusion rules
- Nine fewer plugins and a more focused WordPress setup
- More consistent product layouts across desktop and mobile
- Less repetitive work whenever the catalog changes
Most of these improvements are not immediately visible to customers—and that is precisely the point. The frontend remains familiar, while the work required to maintain it has been substantially reduced.
The way we work, and the aftermath
Websites ability to evolve and scale is a natural result of the S-Tier Framework and the way we approach every project, and not as a separate layer of “future-proofing”.
Launch
Launching the new website was not the end of the improvement. Because the theme and its additional functionality were built specifically for KB Covers, the website now has a clear foundation for future development.
Extending functionality
When existing functionality needs to be extended—or something completely new needs to be added—we know where it belongs, how it works, and how it connects with the rest of the website.
No limitations
We are not forced to work around the limitations of a general-purpose page builder, navigate excessive theme code, or install another large plugin to gain one small feature. New functionality can be added directly to the existing system while keeping the backend focused and consistent for the KB Covers team.
More than recreating what was already there
A development partner should not change things simply for the sake of making them different. But they also should not reproduce clear limitations simply because those limitations were part of the original website.
For KB Covers, the right approach was to preserve the established design while rebuilding the system behind it: faster WooCommerce product and WordPress pages editing, fewer dependencies, less manual work, and more consistent frontend behaviour.
The result is not merely the same website on a different theme. It is a website that is considerably easier to manage, more focused on the client’s actual workflow, and ready to support the business without unnecessary friction.
